Snowballing

Progress is really ramping up now, the project is getting bigger and support is growing. I’m busy on so many fronts - which is very enjoyable.

I remember, a long time ago I went for a job interview at Games Workshop HQ in Nottingham and they asked me which aspects I’d most like to be involved in , I said ‘everything!’ They laughed (not sure if at me or with me lol) and said ‘Oh a one man studio!” Well, I’m not quite a one man studio today, since I have such a great team of collaborators but I do have a lot of different hats to wear at the moment! (I did not get the job incase you were wondering )

This week we are getting final quotes from two manufacturers on the game and prototype. This will inform our Kickstarter funding goal among other things, I’m excited to see the different options we can give to our backers. Jon approaches these decisions as a fan rather than a businessman and uses language like ‘If I was backing this ….’ rather than ‘we would get the most financial support if we only did this…’. That is what makes this industry so special I think.

Xavier, the concept artist is again proving his versatility - he did character concept art for the Descendants Super Heavy, a paintover of a 3D terrain piece and topped it off with a new painting for the game board. He is also great to work with. A tribute to the moden age of collaboration given he is working in Santiago, Chile and I’m in Perth, Australia! Hmm, writing about the gameboard makes me think the tiles should be double sided so players have 2 battlefield terrains to enjoy…. another Slack post to Xavier.

What am I most excited about this week? Has to be the box cover - Hardy has sent me 2 drafts and it is looking really nice. Should be quite striking on the tabletop, and his style is such high quality - he has worked with all the big fantasy gaming companies (including my old interviewers mentioned above). Expecting the final version this week so that should show up on the website soon.
